Program Costs and Scholarships
Tuition for the LLM and MSL online programs is determined by the law school and updated each summer. For the 2025-26 academic year, tuition costs have been set at $2,268 per credit, with 26 or 27 credits required to complete the LLM degree and 27 credits required to complete the MSL degree. There is also a registration fee of $42.50 per term. For the most up-to-date information about registration and fees, go to the law school’s tuition and fees page.
Scholarships
The Center for Animal Law Studies is proud to offer robust merit-based scholarships opportunities for well-qualified U.S. and international online Animal Law MSL and LLM applicants. All applicants are automatically considered for scholarship support. Please be sure to share your scholarship qualifications in the Letter of Interest that is part of the application process. In addition to our full and partial scholarship opportunities, we also have several named-scholarship opportunities.

William C. Borst Anti-Vivisection Scholarship
A full-tuition scholarship for an outstanding incoming Animal Law LLM or Animal Law MSL student who is interested in anti-vivisection work including: policy development, implementation, or enforcement; scholarship or teaching; advocacy; executive leadership and more. Priority will be given to applicants who are passionate about ending the use of companion dogs in research.
Financial Aid
For information about financial aid, contact the Financial Aid Office. Note that a student must be registered for at least 5 credits each term to be considered a full-time student. Being less than a full-time student may impact a student’s ability to defer federal loan repayments, so students should plan accordingly.
Academic Calendar
The law school is on the semester system, with 13 weeks of classes and two weeks of exams in each Fall and Spring term. The Fall term usually begins the week before Labor Day and ends the second or third week of December; that said, students beginning in the Fall have a two-week window to get a head start in their Introduction to U.S. Legal Studies course. The Spring term begins in early January and ends in May, with a one-week spring break in March. See the school’s academic calendar for specific dates and for information on the Summer term, which runs approximately 10 weeks.
